Open Question: Selling my boat to a person and "carrying the paper" for the loan?
I am selling my boat to an individual and he would like to make payments to me instead if getting a loan. I already have a promissory note and a bill of sale. I was wondering if I keep the pink slip in my name and just give him the registration and the bill of sale? Do I add myself as a lien holder somehow on the pink slip. When you buy a car, you don't get the title till the loan is all paid off. I want to make sure the liability is transferred from me as the boat owner to him (the new owner) I will still be able to repossess the boat in case he misses a payment. Just curious and help would be much appreciated.
I own the boat outright and will have the individual list me as an additional insured on his policy. It is a Bayliner 245. If the boat is damaged, he will be liable for it as he will have a loan that he will need to pay off with me.

Open Question: Trolling motor choice?
Diehard 1.5 hp 12v trolling motor that I am thinking about buying. Its $40.00 and he says its an older model any good or bad things about Diehard...I've never heard of it. I have a 12ft aluminum boat that generally has 3 good size adult male passengers. Is there enogh power? How long will it run? Is it good? I'll of course look at it before i buy but what should i look for? I jsut want a heads up before i purchase it.
thanks ahead
thank you jtexas,
no we aren't cramped its quite spacious actually.
its 1.5hp
idk what thats good for...
but each of us weights 225 180 and 250 so it holdsw us well, and i want to be able to move in a breeze at least, no rough waters on our lake jsut some strong breezes sometimes...
also, i know the weight limit is higher than the three of us...
and ive cast with 4 ppl in my boat,
two 12 yr olds myself and a friend.

Open Question: How do fishfinders compensate for the motion of the boat?
So we were watching the BBC's Three Men in a Boat, when they showed a fishing boat fitted with a fishfinder sonar. And the question arose how the screen shows a steady picture when the boat is pitching and rolling around?
I had a quick look around the Garmin website, after a search engine failed to throw up any obvious answer, but all to no avail.

Open Question: On a small bass boat at the battery terminal, there is a box inline?
On the positive battery cable, motor is 40 hp Mercury, looks more like my Yamaha than most Mercuries I have ever seen but it is a Mercury. Anyway what is the box for (half size of a match box) and a little bolt and nut sticking out ofit. It sat up a year and we were trying to restart...yeah we did all that and I couldn't get full spark until I whacked the box a few times with screwdriver. Works fine now , but what is it?

Open Question: How do I repair screw holes in the bottom of my fiberglass boat?
There are 6 screws sticking out the bottom of my hull about 8" apart. I cant get to them from the inside. My only option is to repair them from the outside. I was thinking I can shear the screws off at the surface, then either bend them up into the sub-floor or grind them with an endmill. Either way ill end up with a 1/2' hole. can i patch the hole without backing on the inside and if so how?
